Welcome to the third edition of AILA FRESH news- this edition is brought to you by the new, but growing SAILA FRESH, the South Australian FRESH group.

As always, a big thank you to our Corporate Partners Cabot’s & Intergrain for their continuing generous support. Make sure you get involved in the AILA FRESH SKETCH Comp curated by Intergrain which invites you to submit a digital sketch which incorporates the theme of this year’s Festival, This Public Life. The winner will be selected by jury and People’s Choice and announced at the Festival in October. The sketch will then be printed on 1,500 satchels and distributed to AILA FRESH members across Australia. It’s a fabulous opportunity to get your work out in the public eye, so make sure you take advantage of it! Another very exciting opportunity in association with the speedily approaching This Public Life Festival is the This Public Space Australasian Student Competition. The competition calls on students across Australia and New Zealand to work in teams to develop innovative design and programming strategies that make public spaces more inclusive. There is a generous prize up for grabs and the three shortlisted teams will be invited to present their work to a panel at the Festival in October!

The FRESH National team have had a busy few months with various state-run events. Amongst others, AILA FRESH NSW recently hosted a Wednesday Workshop at UTS for which four graduate members donated their time to show off their digital drafting and representation skills to their fellow student and grads; and AILA FRESH Victoria along with the Planning Institute of Australia’s Victorian Young Planners (VYP) group collaborated to present a range of speakers on the topic of ‘Victoria: A State of Cities’. There are some fantastic events in the pipeline, so be sure to keep an eye on your state’s social media pages for information about the next one close to you!

In addition, the FRESH National team are looking forward to attending the This Public Life Festival of Landscape Architecture (10-20 October). Members from each state will be in Melbourne for the festival and we are busy planning some exciting FRESH led initiatives to creatively connect with students, colleagues and mentors within the Landscape Architecture community. We are also eager to take the opportunity for a face-to-face meeting to plan the next steps for AILA FRESH.

Here in SA we have been busy bringing together new members of our team and organising our official debut event- SAILA FRESH FRIDAY LAUNCH. The celebration will take the form of a Friday night drinks event, set to be the first of a continuing tradition of post-work gatherings held on the last Friday of every second month. Through this we hope to connect graduates, students and professionals in a relaxed and fun setting. Mark 6pm on the 25th of September on your calendars and come help us start with a bang! Huge kudos goes to our friends at wAILA FRESH for coining the Fresh Friday event model, which has been incredibly successful out west!
