ACT Presidents Message - 2 August 2019

Hello fellow members and happy new financial year!

Here’s a quick message to say hello and give you an update on recent events in our chapter.
It has been a whirlwind start to July and I feel a theme of “change” is underway with a lot on the cards in the coming months. Our recent AGM saw the election of a new executive to the chapter:

President – Steve Kirsu (me)
Vice-President – Jason Kocmar
Treasurer & Secretary – Gay Williamson

And… we had a member inducted as a fellow. Congratulations Catherine Keirnan! Your efforts and commitment to AILA are unmatched – very well deserved!

I want to start by saying thank you to the previous executive for all their hard work and achievements over the last year and a double thank you to Jason and Gay for staying on for another term! It would be 100x harder without their experience and continuing involvement in the team.

As the recently appointed president of our chapter I’ll be seeking chats and coffee catch-ups with any and all of you who might be interested in discussing our agenda for the next two years. There’s a lot going on and I know so many of us are time-poor as it is, but if we work smart and keep things targeted I think we can achieve some really good (and important) outcomes in this term.

On that note we have several items that will be populating your calendars in the coming weeks. A non-exhaustive list includes:

- CPD events
- UC accreditation update
- The Territory Plan Review
- ACT Awards (2020)
- Industry outreach and promoting the profession

Each one of these items will be flagged with the chapter by the exec team in the coming weeks as we seek to prioritise our resources. If any of these topics are of interest to you – or you have another item that you think we should be looking at – let us know and we can work out a plan of attack. A little bit of effort can go a long way if used effectively!
