Murray Fraser is an accomplished soil scientist with over 30 years’ experience working in the landscape and horticultural industries. He has been involved with most of the marquee construction projects in Sydney and has made significant contributions to the field of soil science through his consulting work. Murray has pioneered the development of many of the landscaping soils that are now industry staple products.

In this insightful presentation, Murray will discuss the rationale behind different soil types and what those differences are. He will cover the considerations and processes involved in designing a soil mix for a specific landscape application and will draw on his experience in developing the Benedict SmartMix range of soils.

Murray possesses a solid background in soil science, urban agronomy, resource recovery, and horticulture. Murray received his undergraduate qualifications in Agricultural Science at Hawkesbury Agricultural College where he majored in soil science and plant nutrition. His passion and dedication saw him graduate with Honours. Murray also holds a Certificate in Plant Sciences - Sports Turf Management and a Certificate in Arboriculture. 

Many people in the industry know Murray for his former role as owner and principal scientist at SESL Australia; but it’s Murray’s 20 years with Benedict Industries that has honed his practical approach to urban soil science and landscape construction. As a trusted scientist and technical advisor, his ability to translate complex scientific concepts into practical solutions have made him a go-to resource for landscape architects, contractors, and clients seeking environmentally sustainable soil solutions for their projects.
