QLD Sustainability in Urban Environments

Explore Riviere, the 2024 QLD Award of Excellence for Gardens winner, followed by an informative session from sustainability industry leader, Andrew Williams from Stantec on Green Star and sustainability initiatives. Following Andrew’s presentation, will be a presentation from Dr Ruby Michael an Ecological Engineer from Griffith University to discuss Biodiversity in Urban environments. These speakers will deliver practical information to achieve a resilient approach to achieve sustainable landscape outcomes.

Attendees will achieve a greater understanding of current and future Green Star trends particularly related to landscape. By attending they will gain valuable understanding to enhance and develop sustainable strategies to achieve exceptional biodiversity outcomes.

Speakers

Vicki Barclay

Vicki is a registered Landscape Architect with over 15 years’ experience, both locally and abroad. Vicki has extensive experience in the design and delivery of public realm, urban regeneration, and high-density residential projects. Vicki enjoys the challenge of crafting innovative and site responsive designs that contribute positively to community outcomes. Working predominately within Inner Brisbane locations, Vicki’s approaches every project individually with a focus on producing contemporary, exciting, and sustainable design solutions that respond to and promote the project’s character and assets. With a strong interest in greening the urban environment, Vicki seeks to maximise opportunities to implement innovative soft landscaping strategies on projects which include the recently completed Tree House and Fish Lane Town Square projects.

Andrew Williams

Andrew’s ambition is to see all projects embrace sustainable designs. As the Brisbane speciality services group leader, he works with all buildings engineering disciplines to provide strategic sustainability advice and solutions that suit the clients’ needs. With his extensive experience spanning individual buildings to city-scale infrastructure projects, Andrew offers support to empower projects to perform at their highest potential. Andrew is a recognised Infrastructure Sustainability Accredited Professional (ISAP), Green Star Accredited Professional (GSAP) and NABERS Assessor. He brings tomorrow's built designs to reality today in constructed, and operational and optimised for long-term outcomes.

Dr Ruby Michael

Dr Ruby Michael leads the ecological engineering research group and is the founder of Green Infrastructure Research Labs (GIRLS) at Griffith University. She is an engineer and ecologist actively working with industry to design, construct and evaluate the performance of a variety of ecological and green infrastructures for waste containment and urban greening.
