Sketch and Grow - Horticultural Tour and Sketching Workshop

With so much of our lives on the computer, it’s time to get out and about in the thick of what we do! We will be hosting a guided walk through the Mt. Coot-tha Botanic Gardens to talk about all things plants. Learn about species selection, growth habits, design considerations and see it put to practice throughout your tour.

You will be guided along by our knowledgeable volunteers - Robert Wilson and Andrew Kyriacou. Robert is the Operational Manager at the Botanic Gardens and an all round horticultural guru! He has a wealth of knowledge around the curation and success of the many plants growing at Mt Coot-tha Botanic Gardens. Andrew Kyriacou is a Landscape Architect at Urbis with a life-long passion for the plant kingdom. His goal is to leave Brisbane greener than he found it, and over his 14 year career, he has developed a deep understanding of plants that allows him to push the boundaries of possibility.

Analyse your knowledge further as we sit by the lake and practise our ‘on-location’ drawing abilities with help from Brisbane’s Urban Sketchers. We will be hosted by John Wright - a landscape architect and urban sketcher. He brings with him a team of sketchers who will help guide you through the drawing process. Never underestimate the power of a hand sketch! Bring your sketch pads, pens, pencils or whatever you like to draw with. Picnic blankets optional.

This event is designed for students and graduates but we welcome all interested AILA members, and are a family friendly event. So, feel free to bring along your little ones (and not so little ones). No need to register your children - but please let us know in your registration if you will be bringing extra numbers.

Registration is mandatory and spaces are limited for the horticultural tour - so don’t miss out!

All are welcome to attend the sketching workshop from 10:30am. Exact location will be disclosed on our instagram @qfresh_aila.

In the event of wet weather - this event will be postponed.

If light showers or cloudy with a chance is forecast, we will go ahead with umbrellas and a sheltered sketching location. Keep an eye on the QFresh socials.
