Speakers

Mat Santamouris is a Scientia, Distinguished, Professor of High Performance Architecture at UNSW, and past Professor in the University of Athens, Greece. He is a Visiting Professor at Cyprus Institute, Metropolitan University London, Tokyo Polytechnic University, Bolzano University, Brunnel University, Seoul University National University of Singapore, and UITM Univ Malaysia. He is a Past President of the National Center of Renewable and Energy Savings of Greece, and an Editor in Chief of the Energy and Buildings Journal, Past Editor in Chief of the Advances Building Energy Research, Associate Editor of the Solar Energy Journal and Member of the Editorial Board of 14 Journals.

Julie Marler is a Fellow of AILA, and a Registered Landscape Architect and has together with architect David Phillips been leading a small practice of landscape architects and architects at Phillips Marler for 20 years. Julie has a Master of Heritage Conservation, in addition to landscape architecture qualifications and widespread experience in masterplanning and landscape design projects,  landscape heritage, conservation planning and assessment, and site interpretation.  Julie has a passion for the understanding of heritage landscapes and places and what they teach us about First Nations culture, sustainability and practice in the built environment.  Julie also believes that design should be seen as a holistic practice in which all disciplines are working to improve our cities and landscapes.  Julie has led many parks and urban design projects for state and local government in culturally significant sites. 

Julie has always been interested in landscape education and has given lectures and been part of design juries at the UNSW landscape architecture program. Julie is currently a member of the NSW Heritage Council Approvals Committee 2021 to 2024.  Julie was an AILA National Councillor (board member) between 2013 and 2015, a reforming period for the landscape architecture peak body and has sat on the AILA Education Committee and AILA National Accreditation Review Panel. Julie has assisted in review of Deakin University and University of Canberra landscape architecture programs.


Tanya Wood is an award-winning registered landscape architect based in Sydney, Australia. Tanya has worked on hundreds of landscape projects both within Australia and internationally and has developed a unique and functional approach to design with her own private practice. With a passion for residential landscape architecture, Tanya leads projects from initial site consultancy through to construction and into preservation. Tanya Wood is also the current AILA NSW President having previously held the Vice President role for 2020-2021. Tanya was a member of the National AILA Honours Committee 2019-2021. Tanya was a jury member for the AILA NSW Landscape Architecture Awards (2020). Tanya lectures and tutors at The University of Technology Sydney (UTS) for the Masters of Landscape Architecture and Masters of Architecture courses. Tanya was a Master of Architecture Studio Lead at UTS during 2021 and is currently the Course Coordinator for Professional Practice at UTS for Masters of Landscape Architecture and Honours students.

An AILA Registered Landscape | Urban Designer, Andrew Turnbull offers 35+ years project experience in Australia and has a strong portfolio of international work in Asia, China and India. He has works for government and private sector clientele across a broad range of market sectors with a focus on tourism, waterfront and urban regeneration. In October 2012, Andrew was appointed to the National Board of the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects (AILA) and re elected for the 2013-15 term.
