Dear Members,

I had the privilege of representing the Landscape Institute at a recent stakeholder workshop organized by the Major Projects Canberra (MPC). This workshop marks the start of a year-long project aimed at reviewing and rewriting the ‘Basic Brief’, a pivotal standard briefing document used by the ACT Government for construction projects.

The workshop is part of a larger initiative to update the Basic Brief. Over the next 12 months, this project will review new and existing documentation, consult with industry bodies, and collaborate within MPC and other ACT Government directorates. The goal is to develop a Basic Brief that aligns with current industry practices, standardizes terminology, incorporates minimum requirements, and fosters innovation. Additionally, the updated document will reflect key Government commitments such as zero emissions and streamlined contractual deliverables.

The resulting Basic Brief will offer enhanced clarity for the industry, be readily adaptable to future policy changes, and aim to secure best practice procurement outcomes for the Territory. This initiative represents a significant step in ensuring our industry aligns with evolving standards and governmental objectives.
