Hi all,

Thank you to everyone who attended the NSW AILA awards at the Zenith Theatre last month, it certainly was a great turn out! The awards this year showcased the high calibre of the work being produced in NSW and we congratulate all those who took home awards. Come the  24th of October, we are looking forward to seeing what NSW projects take out categories in the National awards (to be held in Melbourne).

The executive would also like to thank this year’s jury including Jon Hazelwood, April McCabe, Geoff Bunnett, Shellie Smith, Steven Hammond and Mary Ann McGirr and chaired by Kate Luckraft. It cannot be underestimated the amount and time and energy it takes the jury to review and deliberate the award submissions, the AILA awards would not be what they are without this commitment and dedication, so thank you.

For those who couldn’t attend, Mr Stephen Bali MP and Secretary of Public Spaces was in attendance and handed out a number of wards. The executive was able to meet with Mr Bali after the ceremony and discuss with him the importance of the landscape architectural profession for the creation of cool green communities (particularly in western Sydney). Mr Bali was incredibly supportive of our work and the advocacy AILA aspires to undertake with the state government. We are looking forward to setting up regular meetings with Mr Bali to continue to advocate for better public domain and green infrastructure outcomes in NSW.

In other news, the AILA Board, through the People Recognition Committee, is now accepting nominations for the 2024 Fellowship. This honour recognises registered AILA members who have provided distinguished service to AILA and the landscape architecture profession. The nomination period is open from 15 July 2024 until 5 August 2024. We invite you to consider nominating any of your colleagues, please check out the AILA website for more information.

Free up your calendars as there are several events coming up in NSW including the Benedict Sandy Point Quarry Tour later this month (26th July). We of course have our annual ACM on the 1st August and it would be great to see as many members attend as possible as we review the highs and lows of the last financial year. Also, in August in there is iGuzzini Dark Sky event and the long awaited Latitude workshop on Designing inclusive and welcoming public spaces with the amazing team at Cred. You can register for these events through the AILA website.

As always please keep raising key issues, questions and topics that influence the profession via Memberscape and/or reach out to the Executive.
