In the last month, the main focus of the NSW executive has been advocacy. With the machinery of Government changes starting to come into effect, we have been looking at how we can better advocate to Government based on their current agenda. The advocacy committee and NSW Executive prepared a submission on the Transport Oriented Development SEPP, advocating for better green infrastructure outcomes for ‘density done well’. We are looking forward to meeting and touring exemplar open space in higher density areas with Minister Scully in the coming weeks.

As our student numbers are down, we have also been focussed on the ‘Be a Landscape Architect’ program. A couple of weeks ago we held the Be a Landscape Architect ambassador online presentation. The presentation was well attended, and we look forward to hearing how our ambassadors go in promoting and encouraging high school students to enrol and study Landscape Architecture at one of excellent academic institutions.

Further to this UpRising offers 50 NSW High School Design & Technology students the opportunity to meet industry leaders, businesses, and community members, receive feedback, test ideas and prototypes, and promote their final projects. Each year UpRising Design students are offered big opportunities to connect with business & industry to develop their capabilities and major projects. This year UpRising will be held at Hassell’s office where the NSW Executive and AILA Fresh will get the opportunity to promote landscape architecture as a profession to aspiring design and technology students.

We would also to congratulate all the entries that won awards at the Urban Design Awards held at Parliament House on the 18th March. Speaking of awards, the NSW AILA award submissions closed last week, best of luck to all entrants we look forward to celebrating with you later in the year.

Easter is not too far off now! Enjoy the upcoming short working weeks and of course have a relaxing and safe long weekend.
