Welcome to the NSW Executive final address for 2022.
We have rounded out the year with a fabulous turnout at the Sunset tour of Bondi Pavilion last week hosted by Light Culture. Sydney turned on the sun for a perfect evening to tour the newly completed Bondi Pavilion.
Bondi Pavilion was design by JMD Design and TZG Architects. Roughly 30 AILA members turned out to get a personal guide by the Landscape Architects Bernado Cunha  and Anton James and Architect Wolfgang Ripberger. The design process was shared with the group which extended from JMD and TZG being the winning team from an expression of Interest.
We saw the special paving features that were sandblasted into the concrete to create patterns on the surface and heard about some of the difficulties that were had in achieving this with formwork moving. We were walked into the newly built theater which featured some incredible artwork that was found when renovating that was once part of the tunnels of the pavilion.
Walking around the atrium you are greeted with an impressive structure of concrete, glass and timber. The concrete pillars spanned the 2 story+ void and together with the roof structure was all brought into site in one piece. Thank you to our presenters for taking the time out of their day and giving us the chance to understand and appreciate your design.
After the walking tour the group gathered at North Bondi RSL for some sneaky light refreshments and a catch up.

AILA NSW also welcomed and was introduced to our 2 new co-chairs of the AILA Fresh Committee, Rachel Fong and Abbey Schweizer along with 4 other Fresh Committee members present. AILA NSW congratulates UNSW LA Students who graduated last week and presented an impressive exhibition Confluence, at the Coal Loader, Center for Sustainability, on Friday evening.

Last week our NSW Chapter secretary Nat attended a workshop for the NSW Public Spaces Charter held at Burwood Library and Hub.
The NSW Public Spaces Charter was designed to support organisations and agencies with a direct role in the planning, development, design, management or activation of public space. It identifies 10 principles for quality public space, developed through evidence-based research and discussions with public space experts and community members.
AILA is pleased to also announce that AILA has applied to be a signatory of the NSW Public Spaces Charter. We invite other NSW practices and those nationally to follow our lead.
This is fantastic for the Landscape Profession, it supports the need for great public spaces, have a read through the 10 principles and become a signatory.

Also, last week AILA NSW members were welcomed to the Delprat Gardens in Newcastle for a fantastic Regional Salon – The Green Detox. Small groups were guided through different trial areas demonstrating the living phytoremediation laboratory, thank you to the University of Newcastle, SueAnne Ware, Bosque LA Chris Johnstone, AILA NSW Principal partner Andreasens Green for the incredible opportunity for our members to connect and celebrate 2022.
One last event for 2022 is the NSW Far North Coast LAs Gathering happening this Thursday – this is you last chance to register for this event, you don’t want to miss out!

AILA NSW is working to appoint the NSW 2023 Awards jury panel and look forward to your entries opening early Feb 2023. Take advantage of the sunny conditions to do your project photography!

On behalf of all the NSW Chapter Executives, Tanya, David, Nat, Cate, Jason and myself, Tessa, Georgiana and Claire, we wish everyone a well-deserved break, a Happy Chanukah, a Merry Christmas and love-filled holiday. Stay safe over the break and looking forward to a busy and successful 2023!

Please note the NSW Chapter will be close from Dec 22nd, 2022 and will reopen on Jan 9th, 2023
