Natalie McEvoy

NSW Executive Secretary

18 April 2023

It’s been another busy month for our industry with plenty of events happening across the State.

I’ve been busy working with the AILA NSW Executive to support and advocate for our members. Last month the Exec had a workshop to consolidate the operational planning for our membership. Our new approach is focussed on sharing knowledge / inputs across Chapters and strengthening our initiatives to deliver more for our members and for our industry.

The NSW Advocacy Committee and NSW Executive are in the process of sending key members of the newly elected government a letter of congratulation on their successful election to the NSW parliament and the offer to meet with AILA NSW representatives to further discuss/advise on matters that align with their individual portfolios. We look forward to building new relationships and strengthening our existing connections as we advocate for the important role Landscape Architects play in creating more liveable cities, healthy active spaces, and sustainable design outcomes for everyone.

It’s a good opportunity to note the upcoming call for NSW Chapter Executive Board members. I’ve found the experience to date invaluable, being a part of the Exec has given back to me in many ways. I’m making connections across our industry and contributing to a bigger picture of raising the profile of Landscape Architecture, contributing to advocacy and policy developments that will contribute to better outcomes for our land, our parks and environments. Register for the Member Connect Webinar : Chapter Executive Nominations -Thursday 27th April to find out more.

Call for nominations will be opened on the 27th April 2023 and close 12th May 2023 with July being the start of the new Exec.

I encourage you to think about joining the Exec - it’s an enriching and rewarding experience, feel free to reach out to any of the Exec on Memberscape, happy to explain what being part of the group involves.

May is a busy month with the AILA NSW 2023 Chapter Reveal – 04May where we share the projects entered into this year’s award’s program:, I’ll be attending The Elara Riparian Tour – 11May, a great opportunity to see the creek landscapes and environmental design and we finish off the month with Benedict’s “Digging Deep" Webinar 23May- presented by Murray Fraser where he will discuss the rationale behind different soil types and what those differences are and the considerations and processes involved in designing a soil mix for a specific landscape application.

June 8th is the AILA NSW 2023 Chapter Awards which is always a wonderful night of celebration and recognition. Registration will open in early May with the Early Bird prices available for a short time- details on when you can start booking will be shared shortly.

And finally on behalf of the NSW Executive and members we wish Tessa, the best of luck as she takes on the role of Chapter Manager NSW/ACT for the Planning Institute of Australia. Thank you for all the work you have done over the last 4 years. As part of the NSW Executive we see first hand ,the enormous effort you put in behind the scenes, and your drive and determination to accomplish so much for the AILA NSW membership. Tessa’s last day is Monday 24th April – Good Luck Tessa! Re-read Tessa's farewell EDM from the 6th April
