AILA SA Executive Message

Hello from our lovely Exec team!

Well January has flown by as if we only have 11months of the year instead of 12 and the AILA SA exec team is really sinking our teeth into 2024.

We recently came together for our Annual Executive Planning session – hosted at the offices of the wonderful JPE – and the inspiring views of the city mixed with getting to know some of execs newest members (Welcome Lyndon and Enoch!) had our ideas flowing. We further refined a number of goals for the SA chapter and have some exciting opportunities in the works for 2024.

One new initiative for 2024 is a Landscape Architects in Public Practice Roundtable on Wednesday 20 March from 12-2pm at ODASA. This networking ideas session is hosted by the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects – SA Chapter (AILA SA) and is open to all AILA SA members and also non-members in Local Government and State Government. Read More and RSVP for this Roundtable.

If it is not already on your radar, the AILA SA Awards for 2024 are open for submission and we can’t wait to see what you have worked tirelessly and passionately for over the last 12 months. You can check out our awards Jury here with all the other Awards details. Don’t forget that entries close 13th March otherwise you’ll have to wait until next year! Our State categories for 2024 include Future Leaders Award and SA’s Water for Life Award– both are free to enter.

Over the last few months, our Exec Team has been working closely with the University of Adelaide to support and advocate the creation of the New University aimed to better highlight the significance of the profession of Landscape Architecture in South Australia. We have recently formalised a letter of support and executed a roundtable meeting for members to share their thoughts and discuss the top 3 skills of Landscape Architects in order to create a consistent message back to the University of Adelaide. Read the letter of support.

If you would like to be further involved in AILA SA’s Advocacy work, please see details for the establishment of an AILA SA Advocacy Panel in the stories below for more information.  We would love to hear from you.

Our Freshies are back for another year too with a new team spearing heading our future LA’s - well done team! The leadership team for 2024 is as follows:
Elissa Stapleton (Co-leader)
Twinkle Sharma (Co-leader)
Apeksha Joshi (Co-leader)
Veena Yelamanchili (Vice-leader)
Pranathi Maddala (Vice leader)

SAILA Fresh are always on the lookout for members who love discussing all things Landscape Architecture, inspiration and being actively involved in change for the future – their next get together is March 7th, so don’t forget to pop that in your calendars – all the details below.

Hopefully February and mad-March doesn’t hit too hard and stay tuned for our next E-News!
