News from AILA Victoria Chapter 1 June 2022

With the start of Winter, I’m enjoying the changing colours in our landscapes, the first snow falls in the mountains and knitted beanies. It’s crazy how fast the year is going! One of the great joys of living in Victoria is experiencing the changing seasons. It’s not just the changing landscapes, but also how we respond – how we dress, how we use outdoor spaces, how we play. These all change with the seasons and I think often winter brings out the best!  It’s also great to see how landscape architects respond to changing seasons in their designs – another aspect that enriches our outdoor spaces.

In the post-covid world, the importance of ensuring outdoor spaces work year-round is universally recognised. It’s great to see some truly beautiful and creative responses emerging from our profession.

The consistent message I’m hearing from around town is how busy we all are. Great to hear – but I hope everyone can find some time for a bit or rest and relaxation. Of course there are also some fantastic up and coming AILA events that are worth attending.  These are:

Landscape Restoration in a Changing Climate (Online workshop) - Tuesday 7 June at 12.30pm, Hosted by AILA Vic Environment Committee and sponsored by Metro Trees and Ecodynamics; and

AILA Vic Landscape Architecture Winners Announcement – Wednesday 22 June at 12.30pm. Remember to book your boardrooms, organise lunch and celebrate with your colleagues!

I look forward to attending these in June, and experiencing the winning projects in the near future. I hope all members have a productive and enjoyable June – and end to the financial year!
