Cultural Awareness Training with Kuma Kaaru

Cultural awareness increases cultural resurgence and strengthens relationships between Aboriginal People and the wider community.

This cultural awareness training will commence or enhance participants’ cultural journey through a comprehensive, in-depth workshop on the foundations of Kaurna Culture.

Kuma Kaaru aims to enable participants to understand the broader Aboriginal culture. They aim to shape culturally capable workforces and encourage organisations to examine their values and belief systems.

This Cultural Awareness training navigates the following topics:

  • Land and Diversity
  • Kinship and Responsibilities
  • Death and Dying Processes (traditional and contemporary)
  • Spirituality and the spirit world
  • Colonisation history and timeline
  • Statistics of Aboriginal People today

About Kuma Kaaru

Founded in 2008 by Jack Buckskin, Kuma Kaaru has grown over the past 14 years into a community of 12 staff, passionate about sharing their incredible culture.

Kuma Kaaru aims to educate and teach Aboriginal and Non-Aboriginal People of the local language and culture to showcase the diversity of Aboriginal nations.

Working with all kinds of organisations, from schools to the South Australian Music Awards and Sydney Swans, their family works to strengthen relationships between Aboriginal People and the wider community.
