Let’s talk playspaces with your friendly, neighbourhood Playground Inspector, Registered Landscape Architect and Playground Australian Standards Committee Member – Kate! The Australian Standards play an integral role in reducing the number of significant injuries in our younger users. Our presenter Kate works for Kidsafe SA who are leaders in the field of injury prevention around the country. It is their mission to lead and influence unintentional child injury prevention efforts across South Australia, through education, advocacy, strategic partnerships and service provision.
This lunchtime session will explore components of the Australian Standards AS 4685:2021 Playground Equipment and Surfacing and Parts 2 & 3 with a guest appearance from AS 4422:2022 Playground Surfacing - from the independent inspectors perspective - through discussions into some of the common misconceptions, misunderstandings and mis-oh-dear-I-didn’t-think-of-that!….We’ll touch on interpretations of risk, hazards and challenges around play elements such as slides and swings, and how these considerations can influence the way you think about the design and construction of our playspaces to reduce the risk of serious injury but maintain all levels of play!
