Healthy Parks Healthy People SA - Action Plan 2
2016-2021 Quality Green Public Space
The Healthy Parks Healthy People SA Action Plan 2 provides a nationally significant partnership between Australian Institute of Landscape Architects - SA Chapter and State Government Agencies to elevate the role that the planning, design and management of quality open spaces can play in the health and wellbeing of South Australian communities.
AILA SA has been proud to co-sponsor the Healthy Parks Healthy People Action Plan 2 – Quality Green Public Space, with the Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure, and the Office of Design and Architecture in South Australia.
In collaboration with the co-sponsors, AILA SA has valued the opportunity to work with the Department for Health and Wellbeing, as well as the Department for Environment and Water, to set the direction for the Action Plan and actively contribute to the development of key outcomes, in particular, the milestone publication of the “Creating Greener Places for Healthy and Sustainable Communities” document.
From the Action Plan, the development of the 6 Key Principles for Quality Open Space, and the demonstration of these principles using examples of work by local landscape architects demonstrates a unique opportunity for AILA to broaden the conversation and elevate the collaborative role landscape architects can play with health and environmental specialists in creating healthier communities.
In addition, the establishment of the Healthy Parks Healthy People SA Award sponsored by the South Australian Government, celebrates an entrant that best demonstrates the Six Key Principles for Quality Open Space as part of the 2019 AILA SA Landscape Architecture Awards program. It is hoped the South Australian award will create an ongoing and evolving catalogue of local best practice examples of Quality Green Public Open Spaces and the different representation of the six principles.
The 2019 AILA SA Presidents Award is pleased to recognise the national significance of the Healthy Parks Healthy People SA – Action Plan 2 to the practice of landscape architecture in South Australia, and we look forward to greater collaboration between AILA and the Department for Health and Wellbeing and the Department for Environment and Water, through the ongoing advancement of the Action Plan.
