Who can apply?

Applications for Registered Landscape Architect membership are invited from landscape architecture professionals who have completed an AILA accredited landscape architecture qualification and have been practising for at least two years of full time work post-graduation from an accredited degree. There are a number of options available to assist applicants’ eligibility:

  • If the applicant has been a Registered Landscape Architect with AILA in the past and would like to re-join, the applicant may apply as a Re-joining Member .
  • If the applicant has been working as a landscape architect for eight or more years or part time equivalent and has an AILA accredited landscape architecture qualification, then the applicant may be eligible for Senior Entry .
  • If the applicant has been working as a landscape architect for more than eight years or part time equivalent but you did not graduate with an AILA accredited degree, then the applicant may be eligible for Equivalence . 

Important information: Accredited academic qualifications in Landscape Architecture

Please note: If you have an overseas degree, the program must have been accredited by the relevant accreditation body and recognised by the relevant Professional Body of Landscape Architecture in the country of study, at the time of study.

Evidence: We require that you submit a letter of support from the Professional Body of Landscape Architecture (who must be a member of the International Federation of Landscape Architecture (IFLA) or the relevant registration/licensing body of that country, confirming that the program of study is accredited by them, along with your supporting documents, to be submitted at the end of the application.

AILA has a memorandum of understanding for RLA members in the United Kingdom who have full registration with LARB, the New Zealand Institute of Landscape Architecture as well as members of the Hong Kong Institute of Landscape Architecture. No letter of support is required for these overseas degrees.

Fees

Tax deductible fees associated with registration.

  • Application fee of $243 inc. GST and Mentorship Fee of $684 inc. GST at the point an application is submitted. Applications will not be assessed until the application and mentorship fees have been paid in full. 
  • Annual RLA membership fee: successful applicants will be treated as Registered Landscape Architects and charged a fee calculated on a pro-rata rate based on the acceptance date to establish their fees under that financial year.

3. Certification - AILA issues interview results and if successful, Registration certificate.

4. Part-payment of the first year’s annual registration fees.
